I have always loved the old classic cars. The round contours and the gleaming chrome are so different from the fiberglass shells that we call cars today. I had dreamed of one day owning my own classic. I had often spent time looking in newspapers and magazines for something that caught my eye, but it seemed that everything that I found was either over-priced or in such bad condition that most of the time spent working on it would be just trying to get the thing running. One day my husband and I decided to go to one of those classic car shows that was being held in Concord, North Carolina. We had talked about it for a while, and decided that we wasn't actually going to buy anything; we were just looking around. Seeing all of those beautiful old cars made both of us ache to have one of our own. Cruising down one of the aisles of parts, junk and what-not, my husband came upon an old co-worker of his who was selling spare parts. They stood there talking for a while. My husband mentioned to him that we were thinking about one day getting an old classic and restoring it. That's when his friend points to a big, bulky tarp and says' "That's what you need over there." We stepped over to the tarp and pulled it off. Underneath was a 1954 Buick Roadmaster. The body was solid with only 3 or 4 small rust spots, all of the original glass and chrome, the original seats and IT STARTED RIGHT UP! Well ,I just knew that the price on this thing was going to be well out of our budget at the time, so I didn't give too much more thought to it. My husband stood there talking with him for a few more minutes, and then asked me if I would like to have that old car for a Christmas present. I thought he was joking, and said; "Sure." Before I knew it, they had shaken hands, and that old Buick was mine. I could just imagine he had spent a fortune on it. I about fainted when he said he only gave his friend $900.00! Three days later, the Buick was brought home, the papers were signed, money exchanged and I had my classic! I took lots of pictures and took lots of notes. It was amazing to my husband and how much of the car was original. Throughout the rest of this site, you will see pictures of the inside and outside of the car, along with some restoration tips and general Roadmaster information. Again, thank you for stopping by! |
